During this weekend of professional development, we’re going to explore Body Mapping with Dr. Jan Prokop, Associate Music Theater Voice Coordinator and Adjunct Professor of Voice at Montclair State University – Cali School of Music, and Body Mapping Educator for Respiro Opera NYC.
What is Body Mapping? It is movement re-education for musicians, providing them with the anatomical information to develop body awareness when they sing and play, to recognize and release muscle tension allowing them to move beyond limitation and pain, and to fully express musical ideas through efficient, graceful, and coordinated movement.
On Friday evening we’ll discuss the basics of Body Mapping, the 6 places of Balance and delve into exercises and stretches that will allow us to recognize and release muscle tension in our instruments.
On Saturday we will focus on the application of Friday evening’s information on the basics of Body Mapping. Saturday’s Master Class will focus on students’ mismappings of their bodies and how they can make adjustments to change those mismaps and improve their balance and alignment. ENY/NATS Chapter members who are registered for the workshop may nominate a student for participation in the Master Class.
Following a lunch break, Registrants may sign up for individual lesson sessions with Dr. Prokop, who will work with teachers, their students, or the teacher instructing their student. There will be a fee of $45.00 payable to Dr. Prokop at the time of service for a 30 minute lesson. Private lessons are open to Registrants to observe.
Questions regarding this workshop can be directed to Heather Baird at email@example.com.
